What is plaintiff lawsuit funding? What is litigation financing?

Just what exactly is lawsuit funding?  Also known as legal funding, litigation financing or pre settlement funding, lawsuit funding is a way for plaintiffs in personal injury lawsuits to obtain money by pledging potential proceeds from a lawsut.  Unlike a loan, lawsuit funding is non-recourse, meaning that if a plaintiff does not win a lawsuit, then the funding is not repaid.  In addition, there are no monthly charges or fees associated with legal funding.  Plaintiffs only repay the funded amount when (and if) a settlement or verdict is reached.
